The last scenes in "Thor: Love and Thunder" underscore why the preceding 100 minutes have been such fun.
They're the usual pair of scenes slid into the closing credits of every Marvel Cinematic Universe offering. But instead of setting up other MCU movies or introducing us to characters who might recur somewhere down the road (will we ever see "Black Widow's" Julia Louis-Dreyfus again?), they resolve some "Love and Thunder" storylines and suggest possibilities for future "Thor" movies. In fact, other than an entirely extraneous appearance by the "Guardians of the Galaxy" crew early in "Love and Thunder," what's left of the rest of the MCU is barely acknowledged.

Officials say an Arkansas congressman's son with a history of drug arrests and convictions has been arrested on drug possession charges. An arrest affidavit says police accompanied a probation officer to James Womack's home in Rogers on Wednesday and noticed he was sitting on a zipper-style eyeglass case. The affidavit says that when the case was opened, inside were found several syringes, a small glass vile and a small plastic bag containing what tested positive for meth. The 34-year-old son of Republican Rep. Steve Womack was charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

A dispute about state funding for the University of Pittsburgh over its use of fetal tissue from elective abortions in research is over now that lawmakers have approved the annual subsidy. Pitt is in line to receive $155 million in the current year. House Republicans had sought a provision that would require a university financial officer to submit a sworn statement attesting that their school does not use such tissue in order to get state funding. Together, the schools will receive more than $597 million from the state government. They are not state-owned.

Kazuki Takahashi, the creator of the “Yu-Gi-Oh!” manga comic and trading card game, has died, apparently while snorkeling in southwestern Japan. The coast guard said his body was found this week off the coast of Okinawa and was identified after Takahashi's rented car was found on a beach. The cause of death was under investigation. “Yu-Gi-Oh!” debuting in Shonen Jump magazine in 1996, became a hit, selling more than 40 million copies as manga, although the number of cards out in the world is far greater, in the billions. The official card game went on sale in 1999. A TV show and video games, as well as figures and toys, were also part of the franchise.

Shuan Shuan, the oldest panda in Mexico, has died at the age of 35. Mexico City's Environment Department says the panda died at the Chapultepec Zoo in the capital. The department hasn't given a cause of death. But it says Shuan Shuan lived well beyond her species' life expectancy in the wild, which it puts at 15 years. The department said Wednesday that the panda died exactly on her 35th birthday, and had enjoyed a cake of dates and apples, “her favorite food.” Shuan Shuan was born in 1987, and the department says she was one of the longest-lived pandas outside pandas' native habitat, China.
